Hey, gorgeous people! We hope you're well.
Right now, we're all going through a bit of a rough time. It seems as though there's bad news everywhere. Whether it's on the television, the radio, through the grapevine, you name it. It certainly doesn't help that our casual outings are heavily restricted. We know. We understand.
The key is to keep a positive attitude. There's a lot of awful things happening right now. But, there's also a lot of good. Today, we're going to remind you of just a little bit of that good - we're sure it'll be enough to put a smile on your face. So, let's get started.
1. Koalas are returning to the wild
The title of this point speaks for itself, surely. Wow. What lovely news. Even lovelier than the picture to the left and let us tell you, that's incredibly lovely!
Months after the unprecedented fires that devastated over 2.5 million acres of Australia during the summer, koalas are slowly being let back into the wild. Four koalas and a joey have been released in the Kanangra-Boyd National Park in New South Wales - the Australian state. They are the first of 12 koalas rescued from the bushfires and have been staying at Sydney's Taronga zoo since January.
"We have been busy assessing the burnt area that we rescued them from, to establish when the conditions have improved enough that the trees can support them again. The recent rains have helped and there is now plenty of new growth for them to eat, so the time is right," said Dr. Kellie Leigh, executive director of Science for Wildlife.
2. Neighbours sing Happy Birthday to 100-year-old man
Lockdown can certainly get very lonely, especially if it's your birthday and you're spending it without your friends, family and partner. That's why it's extremely incredible, what a street in Northampton did for Gordon Bentley.
Bentley has lived in Northampton for most of his life and served in Egypt in World War Two. He recently turned 100 years old and planned to party at a local bowls club. Due to the coronavirus (covid-19), it has been rearranged for when the UK lockdown comes to an end. But, his neighbours did not want him to go without any birthday celebrations.
His neighbours organised a mass Happy Birthday singalong to uplift his spirits and to show that they were all thinking of him and were happy to celebrate another year of his life. How wonderful!
3. Himalayan Mountaintops Visible for the First Time in 30 Years
Since global communities have been staying at home, due to the current pandemic and lockdown rules, air pollution has plummeted. So, when you're feeling down about the fact that you can't see your loved ones, although this is extremely tough, try to stay positive - try to think about the good this is doing to our environment! With every cloud, there is always a silver lining.
This silver lining is exemplified on the horizon of Jalandhar in Punjab, India. For the past 30 years, the Himalayan mountaintops have been obscured by air pollution and smog.
Now, as the city's streets have seen a decrease in traffic and vehicles, the mountaintops are clearly visible to the millions of local communities, currently under lockdown.
4. 16-year-old Uses Flying Lessons to Deliver Medical Supplies to Rural Hospitals Fighting Covid-19
Whenever you're feeling down and reluctant to believe that there are no good people left on earth, we want you to think about 16-year-old, TJ Kim. He doesn't have his driver's license, yet, but he's been flying planes all over Virginia, so that he can deliver medical supplies to rural hospitals.
TJ Kim is a sophomore at Landon School, based in Bethesda, Maryland and was inspired to deliver medical supplies, after his classes were cancelled as a result of Covid-19. He has delivered medical gowns, sanitisers, masks and shoe covers to a 25-bed hospital and has continued to embark on weekly flights to other critical access hospitals.
5. Family Lifts the Moods of their Neighbourhood by Colouring House Bricks with Rainbow Chalk
Feeling like their neighbours needed a pick-me-up during lockdown, the Taylor family, from Wellington, Somerset, spent six hours colouring in every brick of their house with chalk, creating a "rainbow house".
They used dozens of sticks of jumbo chalk to create this look. As you can see by the beautiful image above, the entire front wall of their previously red-brick terraced house, now looks like something from a fairytale. Absolutely gorgeous and incredibly thoughtful, if you ask us!
